Vuyokazi Gonyela is a human and health rights activist. She is currently working for SECTION27 as a National Strategic Plan Review Advocacy Officer, and manages the Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights project. Vovo, as affectionately known by others, is an active member and advocate of the Treatment Action Campaign. She currently serves as the TAC’s Deputy General Secretary. Vovo has over 14 years of experience in HIV/TB and Human Rights advocacy and activism work. She is also a Leader of the Law and Human Rights Sector in SANAC – South African National Aids Council. In her leadership roles, she has served as the Co-Chair of Track 4 within the Organizing Committee of the recent South African Aids Conference which took place in Durban from the 13 -15 June 2017. Her slogan is “Lift as you Rise”. She does this through mentoring young women leaders in and out of Treatment Action Campaign and SECTION27. She still makes time in her schedule to continue with her fellowship at Tekano, which is the first cohort and creates a path for the next fellows.
