I am Thania Gopal and I identify as a woman. I am currently in the final throes of completing my thesis towards a Master’s in Public Health degree specialising in Health Systems. I have a bit of a hotchpotch background. My undergrad was a business degree specialising in marketing and I have worked in the corporate sector for a number of years. I also have a journalism postgrad degree and have worked as a health journalist and as a writer and producer in print, radio and broadcast. To a large extent, my work at the Treatment Action Campaign has informed my activism. I have always taken a deep interest in public health issues, and in particular, the underlying socio-economic factors which drive these issues. My specific areas of interest are people-centered health systems, as well as women’s health, and gender and health issues.
I would like to make the world a better place. I am hoping that my experience through Tekano will inform my ability to be a better activist.
