Nosiphelele Msesiwe

Social Justice Coalition, Khayelitsha, Western Cape

As an activist at Social Justice Coalition (SJC), my role amongst other, includes running day to day educational activities and popular education in communities, assisting and facilitating the fellowship programme and campaign education sessions. I also have to mobilise communities, run workshops and presentations for partners and communities, as required by SJC.

A few years ago, I volunteered, as part of electricity task team in my community, our mandate was to go to City of Cape Town to ask for electricity installation in our community. Being part of the task was a great experience for me. We engaged with Mayor about this issue, then after several meetings and discussions with the Mayor, we ended up having electricity in our community. After that I became a branch secretary of the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in my community for 2 years.

From 2015 I was elected School Governing Body (SGB) additional member at Siphamandla Senior Secondary School, and then from 2016 till 2018 was elected again and became a Chairperson of the SGB.
