Eric Motau

Regional Psychosocial Support Initiative (REPSSI), Randburg, Gauteng

I'm an activist that has worked at regional, national and community level with governments, civil society organizations and academic institutions to successfully implement programmes in multi-cultural settings, including rural and urban areas. My experience in programs,  management and advocacy spans over a period of 15 years working in multi-country programmes within education, social development, HIV/AIDS and community development sectors.

I have designed and managed programmes, written opinion pieces, presented at international and local conferences and chaired national structures that advocate and monitor implementation of national programme in health, social development etc.

My current interests are prevention of gender based violence, improving access to mental health services and  ensuring access to quality sexual and reproductive health information and services, especially for adolescents and young women.

What drives me is that throughout my career, the focus of my work has always been to improve the lives of vulnerable families and communities, not only in South Africa but also in the SADC region.  I have learnt to be patient and work hard to achieve my goals.

Building one’s knowledge and skills around in-depth analysis of what are the bottlenecks in the health system and designing strategies that can enhance service delivery among children and young women will go a long way in improving my contribution to building equity.
