The Endangered Wildlife Trust, Mpophomeni, KwaZulu Natal
I am a senior field officer and work as a community engagement facilitator for the above organization on sensitive environmental issues. Examples include dealing with wildlife crimes such as poaching, illegal muti harvesting, illegal trade in wildlife, to name just a few.
My work involves mobilizing and engaging communities to participate in various projects related to conservation in their areas as well as the coordination of various community research projects across different areas where the organization operates. I also facilitate training on environmental education and community engagement facilitation using the cultural biodiversity engagement approach.
I use the appreciative inquiry approach on community needs in terms of capacity building for project management, and facilitating of capacity building programs for community members. I also do fund-raising and resource mobilization for alternative livelihood environmental projects that are environmentally user-friendly.
