Tekano Team

We have an achievable dream of a healthier, more equal South Africa

Tekano (from the Sesotho word for equity) is a multi-sectoral, non-partisan, non-denominational, rights-based, non-profit organisation, which began operations in early 2017. Tekano’s purpose is to build the capacity of visionary, values-based, change-makers to advocate for health equity in South Africa.

Tekano is a legacy programme of the Atlantic Philanthropies, a limited life foundation, that has already funded over a billion rand in the social justice and health sectors in South Africa. Subject to demonstration of effectiveness, the programme will be endowed over a period of twenty years to produce a cohort of over 600 Atlantic Fellows to champion health and human rights. They form part of a global network of similar initiatives in South East Asia, Australia, Ireland, the United States and United Kingdom.

We've been working on a new-look website and we will launch by the beginning of July 2020, please check again soon!
